Cuban Espresso

A Cuban Espresso (also known as Cuban Coffee) is a traditional Cuban espresso drink which is sweetened with brown sugar. It is a prominent drink in Cuban cafes and also at various social events among Cubans. If prepared properly, it creates an attractive looking drink with a light brown foam layer. The use of brown sugar also add a unique sweetness to the drink.

  • 2 ounces of espresso
  • 1 tsp. of brown sugar. Add more if you prefer it being sweeter.

  1. Make espresso. Keep aside.
  2. In a demitasse cup, put sugar into the cup and then add a few drops of espresso. Mix until the mixture becomes a creamy, light brown paste.
  3. Add the remaining espresso on top of the sugar paste. This will create a light brown foam layer on the top.
